Bluemont in Ashland is almost here!

The Hanover Arts and Activities Center is so excited to be the host for the sixth season of the Bluemont, The Cultural Spirit of our Communities, Bluemont in Ashland Summer Concert Series!  We are thrilled for another August of Sunday evening music on the lawn.  Check out the schedule below:

Oh snow, you've changed some dates...

The Hanover Idols Competition has been rescheduled for Sunday, February 21, 2010! 
As originally planned, it will be held in (and sponsored by!) the center with
two shows to enjoy:
5:15 p.m. Hanover Junior Idols Finals
7:30 p.m. Hanover Idols Finals
Doors Open at 5:45 and 7:00 p.m.
Donation $7.00

Executive Board Meeting January 28, 2010 Highlights

The first 2010 Board of Directors meeting took place on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.  For more detailed reports. click on the committee on the sidebar to the right. 
  1. Call to Order at 7:30
  2. Roll Call
  3. Approval of November Minutes (no December meeting)
  4. Treasurer's Report
  5. Standing Committee (monthly)  Report Highlights: (committees not listed were absent).
  • Building Committee-meeting was held on the 25th-radiators covers discussed.
  • Grounds Committee-next meeting January 13th 9-11 am.
  • Publicity Committee-next meeting January 16th-publicity went well for Hullabaloo; is going along nicely for Hanover Idols; will be an article in the Herald-Progress for 'We Were There-A Black History Celebration'. In addition to website and this blog, a Twitter account will be explored.
  • Newsletter Committee-comments about an electronic newsletter encouraged.
  • Membership Committee-Hullabaloo was a big success! Thanks to all who helped-decorations were fantastic!
     6.  Special Committee (as appropriate) Report Highlights:
  • Railroad Run 2010 Committee-32nd running; 30 people already registered; two new logos-your comments welcomed; new route is being chosen as recommended by the Ashland Police Department; need sponsors, volunteers for course marshalls and fundraising.
  • Outreach Committee-Black History Event Feb. 5,6 at Blackwell Auditorium, RMC.  True celebration of our history-needing more volunteers.
  • Hanover Idols-January 31, 2010, 5:15 Jr. Idol, 7:30 Hanover Idol $7 donation.
There was no unfinished business this month. In discussing new business, one board member resigned due to a very busy schedule elsewhere (board approval), painting of the interior-colors and estimates discussed.

Membership Committee REPORT Summary 11-19-09

1. Thank you Jill Grant for reaching out to Main Street in your newsletter. We look forward to more members as a result of this publicity! Thank you to Gwen Strane for sharing ideas that will promote more members to the center. Travel tours from the Center - LOVE THIS.

2. Thank you for your dues! We are so close to 100% board participation. This helps when Faith write for grants and funding.

3. Now that we have our center mission, vision and values updated - at our next membership meeting Thursday - December 3rd we will be nailing down our goals for the year and determine how to achieve these within our budget. In our next task we will rework the benefits of the membership categories and create a new Center brochure.

4. We met on Nov. 10th - we have a little presentation to let you know what is in the works!

Thank you Carolyn Peart, Faith Boyle, Paul Franklin, Nettie Ardler and Barbara Keeton for leading our Center in enlightening discussion. Curtis Shifflet did a great job and organized thoughts and here is what the committee came up with... A FINAL BOARD VOTE AWAITS!!!

Executive Board Meeting 10-22-09 Highlights

The second monthly meeting of the 2009-2010 Board of Directors took place on Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 7:30, despite lots of sickies everywhere!  We are so grateful to all who were able to attend and hope that those who were home are feeling much better by now! You were missed!  For more detailed reports. click on the committee on the sidebar to the right.

  5. Standing Committee (monthly)  Report Highlights: (committees not listed were absent).
  • Building Committee-beautiful new radiators! Need painting!
  • Publicity Committee-would love some more members-5 more board members signed on at the meeting!
  • Newsletter Committee-Target date of Nov.1.  Committee chairs-please send 100-150 words re: what's happening!
  • Membership Committee-lots of exciting ideas about image, memberships levels, a community card and membership mailouts.
     6.  Special Committee (as appropriate) Report Highlights:
  • Railroad Run Committee-did you know it's the oldest running road race in Virginia? (I didn't!) discussion re: Green Faire becoming separate committee, this event will be our biggest fundraiser since this year is without the Variety Show.
  • Holiday Weekend Committee-gingerbread house judging, Santa, toy donations, including a charitable donation were discussed.
  • Concert Ballet Committee-Nov. 15 3:00 The Nutcracker Suite. $8 adults, $5 children.
  • Outreach Committee-Black History Event Feb. 5,6 at Blackwell Auditorium, RMC.  True celebration of our history-needing more volunteers.
The board discussed further the importance of signing up for at least one of each type of committee under Unfinished Business  In New Business, continuation of learning about grants, grant writing, and updating our mission statement has been going along nicely.  A committee was recommended to help review and prioritize the new mission statement.  The board expressed sadness for our center's executive director's father who has been ill.  A suggestion was made re: adding a new committee for fundraising-by-laws would need to be studied.  Will carry this idea over for next month's old business.

  • Halloween 2009-children decorate 1-3, Trick-or-Treat 6-9, Hanover Concert Band plays spooky music 6:45.
